About Bob Manning

I am a trained counsellor that has been counselling in rural and urban communities in British Columbia, the United States, Canada, and abroad for the past 40 years. I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science at the University of the Pacific in 1975 in Stockton, California. I focused my studies on counselling theory and practice, in both cultural and mental health, substance abuse, art and drama therapy, and community counselling settings.

For over 30 years, I have worked in the health care industry, including 25 years experience practicing in community mental health and Indigenous healing modalities.  I have also helped develop Hey-Way- Noqu Healing Centre and the Dusk to Dawn drop-in centre (now called Directions Youth Services) for youth in Vancouver. I was an administrator and clinical supervisor for the Urban Native Youth Association substance abuse and mental health wellness counselling programs for 10 years.

I have worked in social service programs in Africa, France, South America, and Central America. I taught psychology and history at Edison High School and St. Mary’s High School in Stockton California. I was an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Oregon, San Jose State, and the University California Santa Cruz in California. I have been also a field substance abuse counsellor trainer for Northwest Indian College in Bellingham, Washington.

I live with a very caring and supportive wife, daughter, son, and grandchild, and two cats. I love directing plays to be performed under the stars.
